UK firm focuses on gaming

Heber renewed its focus on gaming at the recent ATEI in Earls court. The firm told InterGame: “We are focusing on demonstrating which customers are using our technology and being more aggressive about our competitiveness. “We’re talking about broadening our market. ” As well as showcasing its three main product lines –Axis, Firefly and Pluto (Pluto 7, which is still in development and slated for a 2007 launch, was previewed), Heber demonstrated its intent by displaying video sequences of firms that use Heber technbology, such as Gamesoft, on a large screen.

Heber is always on the lookout for development partners and that it’s rebranding to focus on gaming would prove a winner . “We’re trying to get as many people developing on Heber technology as possible. ”

*  New technology has been introduced to Azkoyen coin entries. The company’s modular system of acceptors, which cover a number of applications in the AWP and vending industries, now has the DSP unit to measure coins through a sensor. It simply clips on to any of the modular acceptors in the company’s range.
      It is digital – that is the major difference,” said Myriam Erro from the company’s marketing department. “It allows you to take measurements and test a coin in a much better, faster, more secure way. ”

      Meanwhile, Dennis Perry has been appointed UK business manager for Spanish coin handling specialist Azkoyen. Thirty years in the industry with companies mainly in the Leisure Link group  and its predecessors, he was mainly in senior management. This culminated in director of licensed brands and director of leisure services. He will look after all of the UK business for Azkoyen in the payment systems sector, developing and improving contact with the company’s customers, and will be based at Burton-upon-Trent.

*  UK Electronic Game Card, the US rewards based games company, has signed an initial order with Talarius, the UK’s largest High Street slot machine operator. Currently operating 164 Quicksilver Adult Gaming Centres across the UK, Talarius is looking to use Electronic Game Card’s Pocket Slots GameCard in a promotion initially targeting 30 of its Adult Gaming Centres across the UK. Phil Gibbs, marketing manager at Talarius, commented.

Dutch manufacturer JVH Gaming introduced a major advance in gaming technology at ATEI. The Tiburg-based company showed 3D Experience, the first time that a three-dimensional image has been presented on a small screen-adequately bringing the feature into the realms of a single, upright, video-based AWP or casino slot.

     “3D technology has been available for some time on a 42ins widescreen monitor which is viewed from a distance,” said the company’s Emiel Kuijpers, marketing manager. “This is the first time that it has been available on a 20ins monitor. ”
      Philips developed the unit on display at the show and JVH has an exclusive on its distribution and use within the gaming industry. Now the extraordinary effects possible with 3D are available to players standing no more than 50cm from the game the –the average distance players use when playing an upright machine.
     “We have had a great deal of interest from machine manufacturers,” said Kuijpers, “particularly from casino slots producers; they are always looking for extra features to add to the appeal of their games.
